Women experiencing homelessness as individuals—those who are not accompanied by or seeking services with a partner, children, or other dependents—are a growing population in Los Angeles County and nationally. In Los Angeles County, these women make up 68 percent of all women experiencing homelessness and 20 percent of all individuals experiencing homelessness. Prior research has highlighted the challenges and negative outcomes that women experiencing homelessness face. In recognition of the growing population of women experiencing homelessness and their needs, the City and County of Los Angeles passed resolutions naming women a unique subpopulation of people experiencing homelessness, and the County Homelessness Initiative, in partnership with the Downtown Women's Center (DWC), engaged the Urban Institute and the Hub for Urban Initiatives to conduct the first countywide women's needs assessment to answer key questions around demographics, experiences, and needs and preferences related to housing, shelter, and services for women experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County.

Women in the Workplace is the largest study on the state of women in corporate America. In 2015, LeanIn.Org and McKinsey & Company launched the study to give companies insights and tools to advance gender diversity in the workplace. Between 2015 and 2022, over 810 companies participated in the study, and more than 400,000 people were surveyed on their workplace experiences. This year, we collected information from 333 participating organizations employing more than 12 million people, surveyed more than 40,000 employees, and conducted interviews with women of diverse identities, including women of color, LGBTQ+ women, and women with disabilities. Our 2022 report focuses on how the pandemic has changed what women want from their companies, including the growing importance of opportunity, flexibility, employee well-being, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Many women in Florida face significant barriers to accessing quality and affordable care, impacting their reproductive health and the health and well-being of their families. As of 2016, 16.4 percent of women in Florida received inadequate prenatal care, and 8.5 percent of babies were born with a low birth weight (Anderson et al. 2016). According to IWPR's Poverty and Opportunity Index for the 50 states and Washington, DC, Florida ranks 48th out of 51 for the share of women age 18‐64 who have health insurance (82.8 percent; IWPR 2022), leaving many women without insurance to cover reproductive health costs. Additionally, one in three low‐income women in the United States rely on a health center or publicly funded clinic for contraception and preventative reproductive health services (Ranji et al. 2019). Yet one in five women in Florida live in a county without an abortion provider (Anderson et al. 2016), leaving many women without access to affordable reproductive health care.An in‐depth analysis of the current state of women's reproductive rights and health in Florida is critical for the development of policies and programs that will improve access and outcomes for women across the state, particularly in light of the pandemic and ongoing economic crisis. To facilitate state-level discussions as well as the development and promotion of relevant policies, this White Paper provides information on a range of issues related to women's reproductive health and rights in Florida, including abortion, contraception, infertility, and sex education. In addition, the paper presents data on fertility and natality and highlights disparities in women's reproductive health outcomes by race and ethnicity. It also explores the decision of some states to extend eligibility for Medicaid family planning services and provides data on several other topics that affect women's reproductive health, including access to health insurance. The White Paper ends with recommendations for policies to improve women's access to reproductive health services and additional research to address existing gaps in the literature.

This collection of stories explores the diverse realities of Roma women, girls and LGBTQI+ people, as well as the realities of activists who advocate for change on the frontlines in the Southeast Europe region. Building on 19 semi-structured interviews with activists conducted between 2018 and 2022, this research also examines the intersectional nature of the challenges that Roma girls, women and LGBTQI+ youth face in their specific contexts, through the prism of activists who have been tailoring their approaches to address and advocate for these issues.

With growing public attention to the problem of mass incarceration, people want to know about women's experiences with incarceration. How many women are held in prisons, jails, and other correctional facilities in the United States? Why are they there? How are their experiences different from men's? Further, how has the COVID-19 pandemic changed the number of women behind bars? These are important questions, but finding those answers requires not only disentangling the country's decentralized and overlapping criminal legal systems, but also unearthing the frustratingly limited data that's broken down by gender.This report provides a detailed view of the 172,700 women and girls incarcerated in the United States, and how they fit into the even broader picture of correctional control. We pull together data from a number of government agencies and break down the number of women and girls held by each correctional system by specific offense. In this updated report, we've also gone beyond the numbers, using rare self-reported data from a national survey of people in prison, to offer new insights about incarcerated women's backgrounds, families, health, and experiences in prison. This report, produced in collaboration with the ACLU's Campaign for Smart Justice, answers the questions of why and where women are locked up — and so much more.

Women (in VSLAs) Respond is an ongoing exercise, conducted by CARE, listening to how women in Village Savings & Loan Associations (VSLAs) are affected by and responding to shocks and crises in their communities, including conflict, climate change, food insecurity, pandemics, and more. The best way to understand what is happening to crisis-affected populations is to listen to their voices and experiences. Between February and August 2023, CARE interviewed saving group members as part of the Women (in VSLA) Respond initiative. This brief represents quantitative data from Burundi, Colombia, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, and Vietnam. The survey included 3,822 (85% women) VSLA members.

"Women & Philanthropy: Inspiring Women, Inspired Giving" is the first contemporary report into women and philanthropy in the UK. It highlights, for the first time, the growing involvement and influence of women in major philanthropy today. This trend is significant for everyone with an interest in promoting a culture of giving in the UK, and this report ought to spur on further research into this important area. Leading off the report, a Philanthropy UK survey of advisors to high-net-worth individuals revealed that, amongst other findings, women, like many male philanthropists, take a strategic approach to their philanthropy, and that they often seek a deeper level of engagement and connections with the causes they support. The report also look at the history of women's philanthropy in the UK, and offer a global perspective, with high-level overviews of women and philanthropy in seven countries.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of casting a gender lens on the analysis of economic impacts and in the design of responses – from the policies of governments and corporate organisations through to the decisions of investors and community groups. It is becoming clear from the research that a gender lens is an integral part of an organisation's operations and decision-making, if it is genuine about its commitment to gender equality.In an initial report commissioned by Australians Investing In Women, Gender Wise Investing: A Springboard for Australia's Recovery, Equity Economics identified five particular areas of vulnerability for women:EmploymentMental HealthSafetyAffordable HousingPivotal Life EventsIn this report we take a deeper dive, to look at the impact of the pandemic on women's employment, and in particular the employment and education outcomes for young women. This cohort's future economic trajectories will be critical to closing the existing gender gap between men and women and understanding how the pandemic has impacted them is crucial.
